Citizens’ Academy

The Citizens’ Academy is a FREE 13-week course designed to teach residents and or business owners about the City and the services it provides. Each 1 to 2 hour session is designed to provide community members with a better understanding of the duties and responsibilities of their local government officials and departments/agencies.

The Citizens’ Academy covers a wide range of topics and incorporates most city departments and agencies. We believe an informed and educated citizenry is vital to the success of the community. In addition to providing an in-depth knowledge of the purpose and functions of government. The academy provides a foundation for those interested in serving on a local boards or commissions. Citizens or Hopewell business owners must be (18) years or older to participate in the Citizens’ Academy. To enroll, you must complete a Citizens’ Academy Application request (attached).

The deadline to submit an application for the Hopewell Citizens’ Academy is August 31, 2018 no later than 5PM. All applications will be accepted on a first come, first-served basis. All participants will be notified of their acceptance into the City’s Citizens’ Academy course no later than September 6, 2018 either by phone, fax, mail or via email.

Applicants may send their application by mail, fax, email or deliver in person to the Office on Intergovernmental & Public Affairs located at 300 N. Main Street, Hopewell, Virginia.
